Resumo

This article analyzes the education, the career and the action
of the sixth archbishop of Bahia, Luís Alves de Figueiredo, highlighting those
indications that allow us to consider his belonging to the Jacobeia, a Catholic
rigorist movement that seeked religious reformation. In order to achieve that goal,
we will look closely to the clientele network in which he was involved, but also to
his own lifestyle and to the possible influence of the Jacobeia’s piety in his actuation
at the head of the archbishopric of Bahia, between 1725 and 1735.
