The cure from a serious illness led the polygraph from Salamanca Diego de Torres
Villarroel (1693-1770) on a long pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela on thanksgiving. Several avatars, analysed in the present article, allow for an individual action (such as the journey to a holy place to keep a vow) to be turned into a literary theme, worthy of collective knowledge, around which develops a skilfully arranged complex publishing adventure
