Possível proposta metodológica de análise documental para a Historiografia Linguística
Abstract
This article presents a methodological proposal for Linguistic Historiography, grounded in the understanding that linguistic thought develops in a non-linear manner through processes of continuity, discontinuity, and rupture. Drawing on Swiggers’s (2004) notion of layers of linguistic knowledge, the paper discusses the interaction among theoretical, technical, documentary, and contextual dimensions in the constitution of linguistic theories. It proposes a segmented model of analysis for the linguistic examination of primary and secondary sources, highlighting the role of institutional and cultural contexts in the production of knowledge. An interpretive approach is thus advocated to explain how transformations in one layer of knowledge, such as context or theory, may reverberate across others throughout the historical development of language.
