Résumé

La CIE-O constituye una herramienta fundamental en la organización del conocimiento oncológico, aunque su definición como nomenclatura en el manual oficial de la OMS plantea el debate sobre su idoneidad como sistema de clasificación especializado. Este estudio analiza su evolución histórica, estructura y aplicaciones en la práctica profesional, evaluando su capacidad para codificar la topografía, morfología y comportamiento de los tumores. Los resultados evidencian que la CIE-O cumple con los requisitos esenciales de una clasificación especializada, como su sistematicidad, jerarquía, flexibilidad y capacidad de actualización. Su implementación ha facilitado la estandarización de información, contribuyendo al diagnóstico clínico, la investigación epidemiológica y la planificación sanitaria. Además, el análisis subraya su relevancia como herramienta de gestión del conocimiento médico y su potencial para seguir mejorando en futuras revisiones. Este trabajo refuerza la utilidad de la CIE-O más allá de una simple nomenclatura, consolidándola como un sistema robusto para la oncología
