Alexandre de Gusmão, S.J. (1629-1724) : diretor espiritual de noviços, religiosos e «perfeitos varões»

Abstract

This article aims to present the different forms of spiritual direction recommended and practiced by Father Alexandre de Gusmão. We make a re-reading of his texts seeking to identify guidelines for religious perfection, the advice on the Eucharist, penance, mortification, the manifestation of consciousness or spiritual lesson and, finally, the instructions to take the spiritual exercices, for eight days, according to the teaching of Saint Ignatius, or to make the election of the state of life.
