Lipreading is used as a technical tool in forensic contexts, especially in cases involving videos without audio or with compromised recordings. Despite its growing application, systematized protocols are still lacking to guide the analysis of silent speech using technical, linguistic, and forensic criteria. This article presents a technical-descriptive protocol for forensic lipreading, structured in five stages and grounded in documented practices. The analytical framework considers parameters such as image resolution, frame rate, camera angle, viseme visibility, geolinguistic variation, and pragmatic context. The discussion also addresses the limits of visual inference and the criteria for media admissibility, emphasizing the integrity and traceability of the analyzed material. Anchored in the forensic linguistics perspective that treats language as evidence, the proposal aims to establish lipreading as a legitimate and auditable practice. It provides a methodological foundation for professional training, practical use, and future empirical validation in applied forensic communication studies.
