Authors retain the copyright to their works, granting Sociologia: Revista da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto the right to publish, preserve and disseminate the final version of the article. The journal undertakes to conduct the editorial process fairly and impartially, ensuring that all submissions are reviewed transparently, rigorously and without bias.
All articles submitted must be original and unpublished works; any detection of plagiarism or ethical misconduct will result in the immediate rejection of the submission.

 

Editorial responsibilities

Authors’ responsibilities:

the authors of the texts submitted for publication are responsible for their content; they must therefore ensure that ethical standards are upheld to guarantee the originality of their work and the correct attribution of authorship, amongst other aspects.

they must ensure that the texts submitted are original, confirming that they have not been published – in whatever form – and that they have not been submitted simultaneously to another publication;
they must ensure that the text submitted is not the result of plagiarism or the appropriation of other authors’ intellectual creations without their legal consent, both of which constitute ethically unacceptable practices;

they must obtain prior permission to use content from other sources;

whenever articles result from research, the methodology must be described clearly and unambiguously, so that the conclusions reached can be evaluated. They must also indicate the references used and the sources of funding;

none of the data or results presented must be subject to intentional falsification or distortion in order to conform to a particular line of reasoning in the work or to previously outlined research hypotheses;

they must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may arise during the evaluation process;

they must actively participate in the review process in collaboration with the editor;

all biographical information provided must be accurate. The list of authors must include all those who have contributed to the conception and planning of the work, as well as to the interpretation of the results and the drafting of the text;

in the case of co-authored articles, the corresponding author must ensure full consensus on the approval of the final version of the text and its submission for publication.

 

Responsibilities of reviewers:

carry out a critical, constructive, fair and impartial review, thereby contributing to the scientific quality of the text;

to refuse requests to review a manuscript whose subject matter lies outside their area of expertise or in cases where there is an identifiable conflict of interest that prevents them from carrying out the review;

in cases where the reviewer considers that the manuscript requires amendments, all proposed changes must be clearly set out and justified;

whenever the reviewer detects that a text has already been published, in whole or in part, or has been submitted simultaneously to another publication, or does not comply with ethical publishing standards, they must report this to the journal’s editorial board.

 

Responsibilities of the editor:

to ensure an impartial and objective approach to the assessment of manuscripts, judging them solely on their scientific merit. To respect the authors’ academic freedom;

to ensure that all manuscripts are treated confidentially and that the most suitable reviewers possible are selected to undertake a critical and expert assessment of the manuscripts submitted for publication;

to ensure that the review process is conducted on a double-blind basis and that the names and addresses provided to the journal are used exclusively for the services it provides, and are not used for any other purposes or disclosed to third parties;

allegations of plagiarism or misuse of published texts will be duly investigated. All texts submitted for publication will be subject to a thorough check for plagiarism. In cases where plagiarism is detected or where texts by other authors are found to have been used without their prior authorisation, the journal reserves the right to take appropriate action.
