Resumo

Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan é considerado o pai da Biblioteconomia na Índia. No entanto, dado o seu enorme contributo para esta área, o seu nome é conhecido um pouco por todo o mundo. Do trabalho de Ranganathan, destacam-se a Colon Classification, sistema facetado de organização do conhecimento cujos fundamentos se encontram em Prolegomena to Library Classification, bem como Five Laws to Library Science. Para além de um prolífico autor, Ranganathan foi uma figura carismática, sendo que o conhecimento da sua vida contribui para uma melhor compreensão do caráter empenhado, exaustivo e meticuloso do seu trabalho. Neste sentido, e assinalando os 130 anos do seu nascimento e os 50 anos da sua morte, apresenta-se uma biografia de Ranganathan, um revolucionário e um visionário, cujo trabalho inspira e continua a abrir caminho às novas gerações de profissionais da informação.
