MAPPING SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE NETWORKS
a relational approach to the foreign correspondence of the archive of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa

The scientific exchange correspondence preserved in the archival fonds of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa (ACL) presents and materializes the interaction between scientific production and dissemination agents in their various cartographies, in a profuse share and exchange of knowledge. The study of the information produced in the context of exchange contributes to the characterization of the institutionalization process of scientific and technological culture in 19th century in Portugal, articulated in a multipolar system of epistemic communities, themselves products of the political and social transformations of their time. By considering the informational object as a multifaceted phenomenon, engaging in dialogue across its diverse contexts of production and use, we intend to create a proof of concept applying Records in Contexts (RiC) and the principles of Linked Open Data (LOD) to implement a relational proposal for archival organization and representation, anchored in an ontological and modeling perspective of information.
