Information ethics and the reconfiguration of the moral horizon in the digital society: a critical review of The Ethics of Information

Abstract

Luciano Floridi’s The Ethics of Information (2013) represents one of the most influential contributions to the development of information ethics as a philosophical field. As part of the broader project of the philosophy of information, the book proposes a reformulation of ethical thinking considering the transformations brought about by the information revolution. This paper presents a critical review of Floridi’s work, focusing on its key concepts. Methodologically, the study relies on an analytical and interpretative reading of the book, examining the internal coherence of Floridi’s arguments and their implications for understanding moral responsibility in the digital society. The analysis concludes that Floridi’s information ethics significantly expands the scope of contemporary ethical reflection by shifting moral analysis toward the informational environment in which agents operate.
