Abstract

This article presents the Professional Interviews project, carried out in 2022 and 2023, which aims to preserve the history of the profession and of the Associação Portuguesa de Bibliotecários, Arquivistas, Profissionais da Informação e Documentação, through video interviews with nine honorary members. The interviews, conducted using qualitative methodology and supported by software assisted transcription and interpretative review, enable an exploration of the interviewees’ career paths, training, skills development and contributions to the profession and the association. The article discusses the role of the interview as a research technique and describes the practices of similar associations in other countries in the collection of professional memory. The results present excerpts from the interviews across three main themes: training and consolidation of skills, the valuing of career paths and professional identity, and the preservation of the association’s institutional memory, highlighting the impact of professional associations on the dignification of the career and the construction of a professional identity.

Author Biography

Luisa Alvim, CIDEHUS - Universidade de Évora

Doutora em Ciências da Informação e Documentação pela Universidade de Évora (2016) com a investigação intitulada A Missão Social da Biblioteca Pública: uma visão das bibliotecas públicas portuguesas a partir do Facebook. Mestre em Ciência da Informação (2011). Pós-graduadaem Ciências Documentais (1992). Licenciada em Filosofia (1985).
Investigadora do CIDEHUS - Centro Interdisciplinar de História, Culturas e Sociedades da Universidade de Évora.
Técnica superior (área de Biblioteca e Documentação) no Arquivo Municipal Alberto Sampaio, Município de V.N. Famalicão. Foi Chefe de Divisão da Cultura entre 1999 e 2006, funções diretivas na Biblioteca Municipal de V.N. de Famalicão e funções técnicas na Casa de Camilo - Museu e Centro de Estudos.
Trabalhou anteriormente no Inventário do Património Cultural Móvel (Biblioteca Pública de Braga) e no Município do Porto, na Biblioteca Pública Municipal e no Arquivo Histórico.
Foi docente na Pós-graduação Ciências Documentais, Universidade Portucalense, Porto e na ESEIG-IPP na licenciatura Ciências e Tecnologias da Documentação e Informação. Tem artigos publicados em revistas da especialidade e em livros de coordenação diversa e artigos científicos apresentados em congressos nacionais e internacionais.
Desempenha cargos diretivos na Associação Portuguesa de Bibliotecários, Arquivistas e Documentalistas - Conselho Diretivo Regional Norte, vogal de formação no triénio 2007-2010, secretária 2010-2013 e vogal do Conselho Fiscal 2014-2016.
