Abstract

This article critically examines the National Reading Plan (PNL) in the formation of readers from Y and Z generations, within the field of Information Science, in the context of the Information Society characterised by the digitalisation of reading practices. Drawing on the concept of leituricídio, articulated with the notion of readicide—understood as the progressive erosion of the pleasure of reading—this study advances an analysis grounded in documentary review and a theoretical framework focused on contemporary reading dynamics in digital environments. Methodologically, the study adopts a mixed empirical design, combining exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory dimensions, employing a phased data collection strategy that integrates a pre-selection questionnaire, synchronous online focus groups, and document analysis. Data were analysed through thematic content analysis and source triangulation. It is concluded that, although the PNL has consolidated reading as a political priority, structural limitations persist, compromising the development of critical, autonomous, motivated, and information-literate readers.
