Abstract

This experience report shares the experiences of the Argentina Lopes Tristão Municipal Library, located in Domingos Martins, during its transformation process into a Green Library. The aim is to become a more sustainable institution capable of promoting positive social and environmental changes. To this end, the library aligned its objectives with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda proposed by the United Nations. In this context, its activities were expanded, consolidating the library as a space for experiences focused on literacy and Environmental Education practices. The library's work with the community in the field of Environmental Education began in 2022. This study aims not only to disseminate the actions developed, but also to demonstrate the importance of information centres being aligned with the 2030 Agenda proposed by the United Nations. The research adopted a qualitative and descriptive approach, conducted through an experience report. Data collection and analysis were carried out based on multiple strategies, such as direct observation of activities, field notes, photographic records, and questionnaires administered to library users. Data analysis followed a descriptive and interpretative approach. In conclusion, the Green Library is shown to be consolidated as an agent of change in its community by promoting environmental education. Furthermore, the importance of prioritising the training of librarians as educators and facilitators of dialogue on sustainable practices is highlighted, enabling them to act as agents of social transformation.
