Abstract

This study addresses the digital preservation of electronic games as cultural heritage, emphasising the need for sustainable strategies capable of ensuring the longevity and access to these digital objects in the face of technological obsolescence. The objective is to analyse preservation models that guarantee the long-term access and durability of electronic games. The investigation was conducted in two phases: the first consisted of a qualitative bibliographic review on games as cultural heritage, sustainable preservation, and digital preservation; the second was based on the analysis of the historical recovery of the Sega Channel catalog. The results highlight the importance of emulation and digital archaeology for safeguarding games as volatile digital content. It is demonstrated that the sustainable preservation of digital games depends on interdisciplinary collaborative networks aimed at ensuring access to culture, research, and entertainment for future generations.
