Abstract

This article presents a methodological framework proposal for competency analysis in library science professionals specialising in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The study draws on theoretical references regarding library and geospatial competencies, addressing the professional profile from an interdisciplinary perspective. The methodology adopted is qualitative and documentary in nature, based on a systematic review of normative frameworks, labour market studies, and empirical research. As a result, 169 competencies are identified and organised into six dimensions: data management, collections, and information services; technical competencies in GIS software; geospatial reasoning; interpersonal skills; training and dissemination competencies; and project management. The proposed framework is conceived as a flexible diagnostic tool, aimed at facilitating the identification of training needs, the design of assessment instruments, and strategic decision-making in academic libraries.
