BURIAL - THE MUSICAL AND SOCIAL TRAJECTORY OF A UNIQUE ARTIST ON THE DUBSTEP SCENE
Keywords:
burial, dubstep, music scene, artistic identity, samplingAbstract
Few musical artists of the 21st century are as unique as English producer Burial. His personal and artistic biography, full of idiosyncratic characteristics, has given him status as one of the most important EDM producers of the recent past, in the eyes of different audiences. Having started his career in the South London dubstep music scene of the early 2000s, this research begins by briefly contextualizing some of the socio spatial dynamics of this musical genre. The aim will then be to draw up a musical and social profile of the artist Burial. His trajectory and musical production will be examined through different dimensions of analysis, seeking not only to define and characterize elements that fit him into the dubstep scene, but also to identify aspects that set him apart from other contemporary artists. A variety of attributes are addressed, such as his anonymity, his connection with London, his sampling process, among others.
