Abstract

Recognizing the unique role that arts educators can play as key partners in promoting the socio emotional learning of children and youth at risk, this article presents an action-research study developed within the artistic workshops of Project Aurora. The study involved 47 children and young people living in residential care, aged between 10 and 18, as well as the technical and pedagogical team associated with the project. In a first phase, a transversal socio-emotional objective was defined across all workshops—responsible decision making—supported by a shared structure and a monitoring protocol. In the second phase, the workshops were implemented and data were collected through pre- and post-intervention questionnaires, field journals, and audiovisual evaluation records. Quantitative results indicate a significant increase in participants’ knowledge and motivation, while qualitative data highlight the relevance of session structure, a positive communicational climate, the establishment of meaningful relationships, and active participant engagement. The findings reinforce the potential of arts integration in promoting socio-emotional learning and inform future implementations of Projeto Aurora.
