Abstract

This essay presents an analysis of Notas ao Pé da Página by Moacyr Scliar and El Fill del Corrector / Arre, arre, Corrector, by Adrià Pujol and Rubén Martín, highlighting them as irreverent examples of transfictional literature with footnotes. After a brief introduction to the “fictional turn” in Translation Studies and the growing interest in transfiction, it explores the role of transfictional footnotes as apparently marginal spaces in which fictional translators assume the narrative voice to become protagonists in the story. In contrast to the common perception of the translator’s footnotes as marginal elements, in both texts, the footnotes emerge as narrative and formal devices that give visibility to the figure of the translator and expand their conventional scope of action. It is thus argued that these fictional spaces operate as heterotopias that challenge the discursive order between the original and the translation and between the author and the translator, allowing for reflection on the close relationship between the act of translating and the writing process itself, as well as on the unstable nature of texts.
