A preservação do patrimônio documental e da memória institucional em uma universidade brasileira

Abstract

This article aims to analyze how university archives are being treated within the institutional context, with an emphasis on their relevance to preserving documentary heritage and institutional memory. This research study, conducted at a Brazilian university, highlights the importance of preserving archival documents to ensure the preservation of institutional memory. The methodological procedures adopted a qualitative and quantitative approach, using a questionnaire for data collection. The questionnaires were administered to academic unit managers and senior management. The research demonstrated that, although the relevance of archives for preserving documentary heritage and institutional memory, as well as for fulfilling the administrative functions for which they were created, is understood, the institution still lacks the creation and implementation of institutional archival policies.
