Abstract

Reading, which today, as yesterday, is a very important vector for the growth of mankind, experienced in Portugal challenges during the Josephine period, with Real Mesa Censória, which were only overcome by the proselytism of its commercial agents. Distinguished and diverse booksellers, strategists and entrepreneurs, courageous and fearless, established with suppliers from countries that were freer at the time, ways and routes to escape the siege of Pombaline censorship. Their mark was latent in the revolution that would change the political program of several nations in the 18th and 19th centuries, including Portugal.
