Abstract

This article investigates the memories recorded in the works A Guerra não tem rosto de mulher, by Svetlana Aleksiévitch, and Memórias do cárcere and Infância, by Graciliano Ramos, aiming to identify that such texts reveal themselves as cultural fabrics of the historical moments in which they were constructed. The methodology used to develop the work was bibliographical and documentary research, in addition to a comparative reading of the works under analysis. This procedure considered particularities that characterize the aforementioned works, relating their contents and creation processes to the cultural construct in which they were elaborated. The research concludes by suggesting that revisiting such texts could contribute to developing anthropological, socio-political-economic and sociological analyses, debates and studies that would lead to the elimination or attenuation of problems that Brazilian (and global) society has been facing and maintaining in force, such as violence.
