Abstract
O livro The Voice of the People? Political Participation before the Revolutions, de Wim Blockmans, parte de uma premissa muito simples. Considerando que, nos últimos dois séculos, a Europa desenvolveu várias formas de representação política que deram origem aos sistemas de parlamentarismo democrático, o autor questiona: de que forma participaram os grupos sociais “burgueses e camponeses” no fenómeno da medezeggenschap (participação política ou codecisão) na formação das sociedades, a todos os níveis possíveis — nacional, regional e local —, no espaço europeu, desde as suas primeiras manifestações visíveis, no século XII, até cerca de 1800?
