This article reflects on the notion of aspectualization within the framework of Discursive Semiotics and some of its developments. Traditionally understood as a grammatical category linked to the verb and, more specifically, to the notion of time, aspect has gradually acquired a discursive status in semiotic studies, going beyond the domain of the grammatical expression of the verbal process to become a general mechanism of discursivization. Initially, the linguistic definition of aspect and its fluctuating grammatical characterization are briefly outlined. Next, the expansion of the notion of aspect into the concept of aspectualization is examined within the classic model of semiotics developed by Algirdas Julien Greimas and his followers. Finally, aspectualization is discussed within the theoretical framework of Tensive Semiotics, as proposed by Claude Zilberberg, in which this notion is understood as a gradual phenomenon that enables the analytical treatment of the sensitive and affective dimensions of discourse.
