The book Argumentação Prática - teoria, método e análise [Practical Argumentation – Theory, Method, and Analysis], authored by Professor Paulo Roberto Gonçalves-Segundo, systematizes the proposals presented in his livre-docência (habilitation) thesis, defended in 2023 at the Department of Classical and Vernacular Letters of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters, and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo, where he serves as an Associate Professor. The work puts forward a theoretical proposition regarding the conception of practical argumentation, understood as an argumentative mode of rationality oriented toward issues of action, typically addressing real-world problems rooted in everyday and public challenges, such as controversies that require collective decision-making. The author acknowledges that addressing practical argumentation means entering a delicate theoretical terrain, since this type of rationality has been examined from various intellectual traditions, which demands clear theoretical and methodological choices. In this regard, the discussion is developed from an integrative and multidisciplinary approach, as has been pursued by the author and his research group, as noted in the book’s introduction.
